Record it. Encrypt it. Keep it on your phone.
VaultCam records audio, video, and your screen straight into an encrypted vault on your phone. The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send your recordings anywhere.
Audio, video, and your screen.
Pick what to record and tap the big button. You can leave the app or turn the screen off, and recording keeps going.
Audio
Records with the screen off or while you use other apps. Lecture mode starts an audio recording in one tap.
Video
Back or front camera, 720p, 1080p, or 4K, at 24, 30, or 60 fps where your phone supports it. Evidence mode starts back camera video in one tap.
Screen, Direct
Records your screen. A small floating panel shows the time with pause and stop. It appears in the recording, so you can collapse it to a dot.
Screen, Presentation
A 3 second countdown, then drawing tools and an optional camera bubble while you walk through something on screen.
Start recording without opening the app.
Triggers are on by default and are armed again each time you unlock your phone. Every trigger shows the recording notification. Turn any of them off in Settings.
Shake
Shake the phone to start, and again to stop. 3 shakes by default, or choose 2 to 4.
Charger
Plug in the charger to start recording, unplug to stop.
Quick Settings tile
Swipe down and tap the VaultCam tile. It works on the lock screen. Stopping from there asks you to unlock the phone.
Scheduled time
Pick a time in Settings and VaultCam starts recording then.
Volume key hold
On Android 13 and older, hold a volume key for 2 seconds on the lock screen to start.
VaultCam always shows that it is recording.
While VaultCam records, a notification says so, and Android shows its own camera or microphone indicator. This is true for every recording, including the ones a trigger starts. VaultCam is not made for recording people without their knowledge.
VaultCam · nowEncrypted as it is saved.
Every recording is encrypted with AES-256-GCM while it is being written, in storage only VaultCam can read.
PIN or fingerprint
The vault opens with your PIN or your fingerprint. It locks again when you leave the app, or right away with the lock button.
Key tied to your phone
The PIN key is bound to your phone's secure hardware. After 4 wrong PINs, entry pauses for a while, longer each time.
Not in your gallery
Recordings never appear in your gallery or in other apps. Recording names are encrypted too.
No recovery
There is no backdoor and no reset. If you forget your PIN, nobody can open the recordings, including us.
Work with recordings on your phone.
Nothing is uploaded to do any of this. Copies you export or share leave the vault and are not encrypted, so VaultCam removes identifying details by default.
Player
Seek, skip 10 seconds, and change the playback speed.
Trim and compress
Save a shorter or smaller copy in the vault, without uploading anything.
Export a copy
Save a copy to a folder you choose. Video exports remove the date, location, and device details by default.
Share to one app
Send a copy to one app you pick, with a generic file name and details removed. VaultCam deletes its copy within about an hour.
Rename
Give a recording a name you will recognize. The name is stored encrypted.
Show that a recording has not changed.
Useful when a recording might matter later: an incident, a dispute, or a meeting you need a record of.
SHA-256 fingerprint
A fingerprint of each file is stored when it is saved.
Session log
Each recording keeps a log of its session, viewable in Details.
Chain-of-custody PDF
Rechecks the file against its stored fingerprint at export, and shows whether it still matches.
Recovered recordings
If the app is closed mid-recording, what was recorded is saved on the next unlock and marked as recovered.
This build has no internet permission.
VaultCam cannot send your recordings anywhere, and it does not try. There is no account, no server, and nothing that reports back. We collect no data at all.

Questions people ask
Is VaultCam free?▼
Yes. Every feature and every quality setting is included. No ads, no paywalls, and no subscription. If you want to help, there is an optional Support page.
Does it need an internet connection?▼
No. The app does not have the internet permission, so it cannot connect to anything. Everything happens on your phone.
Will people know I am recording?▼
A notification shows whenever VaultCam is recording, and Android shows its camera or microphone indicator. This is true for every recording. Recording laws differ by place, and you are responsible for following them.
What if I forget my PIN?▼
Your recordings cannot be recovered. There is no reset and no backdoor, for anyone. That is what keeps them safe if someone else has your phone.
Can I get a recording out of the vault?▼
Yes. Export saves a copy to a folder you choose, and Share sends a copy to one app you pick. These copies are not encrypted, and once they leave VaultCam the app or service that receives them decides what happens next, including its own cloud backups.
Do recordings show up in my gallery?▼
No. They stay in VaultCam's own storage, encrypted. Only a copy you export or share leaves the app.
Which phones does it work on?▼
Android 8.0 and later. Video quality and frame rate options depend on what your phone's camera supports.
Where can I download it?▼
VaultCam is coming soon to Google Play. A direct APK download for people who do not use Google Play is also coming soon, on this page.
